10/09/2018. Seminar on cross-border cooperation (the Project CBC Karelia)
September 6, 2018:
The National Library of Karelia held a seminar on cross-border cooperation (the Project CBC Karelia).
The specialists of the library and partners from other cultural institutions of Petrozavodsk had a unique opportunity to clearly study the processes of interaction of partners in the cross-border cooperation project, take part in a workshop on the development of an idea and a joint work plan within the framework of this activity.
06/09/2018. The opening ceremony of the Center for Children's Reading
On the first day of autumn, in the run-up to the new academic year, the Center for Children's Reading was opened in the National Library of the Republic of Karelia.
On September 1, the Head of the Republic Arthur Parfenchikov congratulated the readers and guests of the solemn event. The Head of Karelia gave two wonderful editions to the library; the books will complement the children’s literature collection of the Center for Children's Reading.
The opening ceremony was attended by Aleksandr Rakitin, the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Council of Federation on Defense and Security, Valentina Pivnenko, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Library, the Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Larisa Podsadnik, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Karelia on Social Issues, Aleksey Lesonen, the Minister of Culture if Karelia. Marina Nikishina, the Head of the National Library of Karelia introduced the guests of the library.
06/09/2018. The National Library of Karelia took part in the Kalakunda Festival
September 2, 2018:
The National Library of Karelia and the Center for Children’s Reading took part in one of the main autumn events of Karelia and Petrozavodsk: the traditional fish festival Kalakunda. The festival has been held in the capital of Karelia since 2000 and is rightfully considered a tourist brand of the republic.
Since the morning, hundreds of fishermen have thrown their fishing rods in order to know the winner of the competition by the evening.
Lovers and professionals of fishing, adults and children became the guests of the mobile library of the National Library of Karelia. Everyone found an occupation to satisfy soul. Those who do not know how to fish could learn the wisdom of fishing from the books presented at the book exhibition Let’s Fish with the National Library; experts on fishing participated in the quiz The Secret of Seas and Oceans.
05/09/2018. Fairy-tale Karelia meets tourists
On the Day of Knowledge, the National Library of Karelia was visited by tourists from Warsaw, Moscow, Novgorod and St. Petersburg. They took part in the program Fairy-tale Karelia.
Karelian and Finnish epos Kalevala was a book guide to the past of our land, and its heroes together with the specialist of the National Library were reliable assistants in studying the history, language and culture of Karelia. The guests of the program had an opportunity to show their abilities in studying the Karelian language, making Karelian amulet dolls, learned about the Vottovaara mountain, the magic of sieidis and stone labyrinths; they successfully coped with tasks related to the Karelian costume, customs and traditions and could play the main characters of he epos and get acquainted with the unique book editions of Kalevala. In conclusion, the guests of the program were presented a miracle mill Sampo, which gave all participants a treat: berry juice and lingonberry pies.
17/08/2018. Merry Matti: revived Karelian fairy-tale
August 14, 2018:
At the National Library of Karelia, our young friends immersed in the atmosphere of a Karelian fairy-tale Merry Matti. During a fascinating game program children got acquainted with the main character of a Karelian fairy-tale Merry Matti, saw real small kanteles and learned, how our mothers and grandmothers could watch fairy tales not only on TV but also on the "big screen" using a slide projector and filmstrips.
At a creative workshop, children felt to be real wizards and made souvenirs – the character of a Karelian fairy-tale and a bear, the owner of the forest.
13/08/2018. Library is the territory for children’s reading
The National Library of Karelia is actively continuing work on placing book collections of the Center for Children's Reading, dedusting and bar-coding books, arranging information and playing space for our young readers.
Children's Periodicals – educational and informative publications, craft and animal magazines –have already taken their places on bright library shelves in the winter garden and reading rooms of the library.
We are ready to meet readers of all ages: preschoolers and schoolchildren, parents, educators and teachers. By efforts of librarians, a cozy information and gaming atmosphere has been created at the Center for Children's Reading, where young patrons can read books and usefully spend leisure time and embody their creative ideas.

At the conference hall, the National Library of Karelia held a round table discussion WRITER-LIBRARY-READER.
The meeting was held in the framework of the festival Petroglyph which is organized annually by the autonomous non-profit organization on support and implementation of cultural and educational projects Petroglyph. The guests of the round table discussion were the Head of Moscow A. P. Chekhov Library Elena Pahomova and graphic designer Yakov Krasnovski, the art director of the design bureau "Barry & Brom", a laureate of the international competition Image of the Book (2017) in the category The Best Book Design.
