16/11/2023. Presentation of the book by Georgy Kikinov, Karelian poet and participant in the Great Patriotic War

The National Library of Karelia held a presentation of the book by Georgy Kikinov, Karelian poet and participant in the Great Patriotic War. The book’s name is “Tsvety-Pervotsvety: Izbrannoye” (Eng. “Primrose Flowers: Poetry Selection”) and it was published in Petrozavodsk in the Ostrova Publishing House in 2023 to the 100th anniversary of Georgy Kikinov.
Georgy Kikinov was born in the village of Derevyannoye, Prionezhsky District, and was one of the best songwriters in Karelia. Nina Kikinova, poet’s daughter, shared her memories of her father and her family.
The honorary guests of the meeting were the people thanks to whom the book was published: Elena Markova, literary historian, Doctor of Philology, author of the book's preface; Yuri Shleikin, Editor-in-Chief of the Ostrova Publishing House, as well as sponsors of the book.
This evening the poetry by G. Kikinov was performed by young participants and winners of recitation competitions dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the poet – students of the Derevyannoye Secondary School No. 9, Gymnasium No. 30 of Petrozavodsk and Petrozavodsk State University.
Georgy Kikinov is a lyricist whose poems both classical composers and modern musicians have used to write songs. At the presentation, songs created by a musician Evgeniy Shorokhov and Denis Topoev, teacher of Derevyannoye Secondary School No. 9, were presented.
The highlight of the evening was the performance of the Tellervo Chamber Choir (director Irina Belkovskaya).
The presentation was prepared with the participation of the Derevyannoye Rural Library of the Prionezhsky Regional Centre of Culture, the National Archives of the Republic of Karelia, and the Scientific Archives of the Karelian Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The holiday event dedicated to the soulful poetry by Georgy Kikinov, imbued with love for his native land, nature and people of the region, was a success! It is gratifying to see the interest in Karelian classical poetry among modern readers of all ages, publishers, and musicians.
