05/03/2019. Literary and Musical Evening Live Kalevala

February 28, 2019: On the International Day of Kalevala, the literary and musical evening Live Kalevala was held at the National Library of Karelia. The evening was dedicated to the rune-singers, whose heritage lies at the heart of the epic poem “Kalevala” by Elias Lönnrot and for centuries has been an inexhaustible source of inspiration for people of many creative professions. The participants of the evening could get acquainted with the folklore sources of Kalevala, hear archival authentic records of Karelian folklore, familiarize themselves with the creative heritage of Karelian narrators and see fragments of documentary newsreels created in different years.

04/03/2019. Programs for children on Kalevala Day

February 28, 2019: On the Kalevala Day, programs for children dedicated to the anniversary of the epos Kalevala were held at the National Library of Karelia. Young readers have become participants of the program “Wonderful Mill Sampo”. Pupils guessed difficult Karelian riddles, played folk games, recalled the heroes of the epic poem and got acquainted with the traditions of Karelia.

February 14, 2019: The National Library of the Republic of Karelia held the XIII annual Scientific Conference Local Studies Days on the theme “Book, reading, information: transformation in time”. The conference united professional and amateur researchers who study history, culture, printed and handwritten heritage of Karelia.

11/02/2019. Opening of the exhibition "Orphaned Coast" in memory of the lost Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God

February 7, 2019: The National Library of Karelia opened the exhibition "Orphaned Coast" in memory of the lost Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Kondopoga. The authors of the paintings are well-known Karelian artists: Vladimir Lobanov, Valentin Chekmasov, Boris Akbulatov, Valery Koshelev, Alexander Kashtanov, Oleg Yuntunen, Badri Topuriya and Nelli Grigorieva. Thanks to their talent, the memory of the beauty of the lost church will be forever alive.

January 13, 2019: On the eve of the Old New Year, the National Library of Karelia invited faithful friends and partners to visit it. For the third year in a row in these days, the National Library of Karelia holds the “Meeting of Friends” for those with whom we make the lives of our readers and guests brighter, more useful and richer. 11/01/2019. Winter Holidays with the National Library: “A Magical Journey to the Fairyland of Andersen”

January 8, 2019: During winter holidays, young readers together with Gerda, the Old Lady who Knew Magic, the Little Robber Girl and the Deer from Lapland conquered the Fairyland of Andersen. The children learned the story of the famous fairy tale "The Snow Queen", became participants of a theatrical performance and found the treasures of the Snow Queen with help of a magic map. At the end of the creative program, together with fairy-tale characters, they arranged a flash mob dance.

28/12/2018. Literary evening of Alexander Volkov

December 25, 2018: The national writer of Karelia celebrated his 90th anniversary at the National Library. On the 25th of December 2018 the conference room of the National Library of Karelia was full. Friends, admirers and officials gathered for a meeting, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the national writer of Karelia A. L. Volkov. The meeting began with the Karelian hymn in Karelian performed by the choir Oma pajo. The text of the hymn was translated into Livvi-Karelian by Alexander Volkov.
