12/07/2023. Presentation of a new book by Evgeny Shorokhov "Museum of Sports History of Karelia "

The National Library of Karelia held the presentation of a new book by Evgeny Shorokhov "Museum of the History of Sports of Karelia". Evgeny Shorokhov is a long-term friend, reader of our library, athlete, coach, sports historian, and head of the museum. In his video presentation, he spoke about the content of the book, its nine chapters. In the book, a significant place was given to Vladimir Kiselev, founder of the Museum of the History of Karelian Sports. An engineer by profession, Vladimir Kiselev became one of the first post-war masters of sports of the USSR, champion of the Karelo-Finnish SSR in shooting. He devoted many years to studying the history of sports in Karelia; in 2004, he published the book “Sporty Petrozavodsk”, laid the foundations of the Museum of the History of Karelian Sports. In June 2023, Vladimir Kiselev has turned 100 years old.
E. A. Shorokhov spoke about the stages of the museum formation, the Olympic champions of Karelia, paid particular attention to the biography of a skier Fyodor Terentyev. The story was accompanied by Karelian television newsreels. The author presented the books to the niece of V. Kiselev, sports veterans, architect Ludwig Davidyan and Honored Worker of Culture of the Republic of Karelia Mikhail Dankov, who helped create the museum and the space around it.
Yury Shleikin, journalist, and Sergey Petrov, coach of the Olympic champion in taekwondo V. Larin, spoke very warmly about the work of E. Shorokhov. Roman Golubev, Minister of Education and Sports of the Republic of Karelia, highly appreciated the importance of the Museum of Sports History of Karelia. At the end of the meeting, the author presented autographed books to everyone, including young athletes.
