The National Library of Karelia took part in the Illusions of the Old Town Event of the Kizhi Museum with a program dedicated to the history of the public education of 1800-1900s. The guests of the holiday were offered an interactive quiz about the image of a teacher in literature and art. At the Lessons of History Program, all those present could get acquainted with the history of the Romanov dynasty.
The exhibition of reprint publications from the collections of the Rare Books Sector aroused great interest. Visitors of the exhibition could try their hand at solving mathematical problems from a book by Pyotr Guryev, a Russian teacher-mathematician and methodologist (St. Petersburg, 1832).
During the Invisible Letters Program, the guests of the holiday got acquainted with books that had been written in Braille. Everyone who wished had the opportunity to write any sentence themselves using this difficult font.
The younger generation looked with interest at the objects used by schoolchildren in the middle of the 20th century, which were provided by the Museum of the History of Public Education. A wide variety of our programs gave a festive mood to the citizens of Petrozavodsk and the guests of our city.
The bookstall of the National Library also took part in the City Day celebrations. Among the presented publications were books on local studies, history, and fiction literature for adults and children, albums with photographs of the unusually beautiful Karelian nature. The inhabitants of the city were not afraid of the unpredictability of the weather and were happy to study and purchase books by Karelian authors and publishers.
