17/06/2023. “Library – the Cultural Code of Russia” – the theme of the All-Russian Library Congress

Murmansk, the Library Capital of Russia 2023, hosted the grand opening of the All-Russian Library Congress: XXVII Annual Conference of the RLA.
June 10-17, about 900 specialists from 68 regions of Russia took part in the Congress. Thematic sections dedicated to the role of libraries in the formation of moral values, the preservation and transmission of the cultural code of the country, the development of creativity in modern libraries and the use of digital technologies were working at the Congress venues those days. The program included more than 500 reports, professional schools, a book fair and an exhibition of publishing technologies.
This year the Congress was timed to coincide with two significant events – the 85th anniversary of the Murmansk Region and the 85th anniversary of the Murmansk State Regional Scientific Library – and was organized with the support of the Government of the Murmansk Region. General theme was ”Library – the Cultural Code of Russia”.
Marina Nikishina, Director of the National Library of the Republic of Karelia, Valentina Lapichkova, Scientific Secretary of the National Library of Karelia and Executive Director of the Library Association of the Republic of Karelia (BARK), and Anna Gnezdilova, Acting Head of the Center for Children's Reading of the National Library, took part in the opening ceremony and work of the Congress.
The All-Russian Library Congress was accompanied by a book fair. The program of the fair included creative meetings with writers and autograph sessions; visitors were presented with novelties in fiction and popular science literature.
On June 13 and June 14, within the framework of the professional program, Marina Nikishina and Valentina Lapichkova presented reports at the section meeting and at the round table discussion.
“A Model Library in a Building, which is a Cultural Heritage Object of Regional Significance” – an actual topic of the report by M. Nikishina was presented to the participants in the round table discussion “Library Buildings: Architecture, Design, and Organization of Space”.
Valentina Lapichova made a report at a section meeting “Library Societies and Associations”. The theme of the report was “Libraries and Initiatives of Citizens: the Karelian Variant”. By the decision of the section, the conclusions and proposals presented in the report will be included in the final document of the Congress.
