03/06/2023. Participation in the Mill of Happiness festival

The National Library presented an educational program Every Word is a Gold Nugget, Every Song is a Gem at the family art festival Mill of Happiness. The participants in the program Every Word is a Gold Nugget, Every Song is a Gem got acquainted with the best illustrations of the Karelian and Finnish epic poem Kalevala. The Kalevala is of interest to artists from all over the world, and at the festival the National Library presented a multifaceted palette of the Kalevala illustrations. The participants in the program got a task to match the image of the hero and his/her description. Everyone could assembly puzzles depicting Kalevala’s heroes performed by various artists. The library site was decorated with banners dedicated to artists and sculptors who embodied the heroes and images of Kalevala in their works, and a book exhibition of Kalevala editions.
The National Library presented elements of ancient Karelian clothing, dolls in national costumes, Karelian musical instruments – all this was hidden in a birch bark knapsack. Such a "backpack" was available in every peasant house.
