02/05/2023. Welcome to the new section – Karelia, my Native Land
We present to the readers a new section of the site of the National Library of Karelia "Karelia, my Native Land", dedicated to the local history. Library studies is one of the leading activities of libraries. The National Library of the Republic of Karelia carefully collects, stores and provides readers with a unique collection of local history documents, resources and materials about Karelia. It is important to note that we not only store and popularize, but also increase the cultural heritage of our native land, by not only making electronic copies of the printed collection, but also by creating electronic resources of our own generation.
In the subsection Land of Unprecedented Beauty, the reader will find information about the republic, enjoy photographs of the region made by famous Karelian (and not only) photographers, find out which books from the library's collections can be read by everyone interested in the history and sights of Karelia and walk along the streets of the old Petrozavodsk together with the library.
The subsection Local History Department tells about the past and present of the Department of National and Local Literature and Bibliography, as well as about people who in different years were engaged in local history activities in the library.
The subsection Book Chamber introduces readers to the work of the Book Chamber of Karelia – the center for archival storage of local publications, state bibliography and press statistics.
From the subsection National Bibliography, you can get to the project of the same name, which provides the reader with bibliographic sources accumulated in the collection of the National Library of Karelia.
The subsection Local History Resources consists of the most interesting materials and Internet projects of the library related to local history activities: Olonets Provincial News, Electronic Library of Authors of Karelia, Calendar of Significant Dates, Book Monuments of Karelia, Chronicle of the Press of the Republic of Karelia, Names in the History of Karelia and others.
The subsection Local History Publications of the National Library contains all the materials published by the library staff. Among them there are, for example, Kraeved (Eng. Local Historian) collection, materials of the scientific conferences Local Studies Days, virtual exhibitions and video editions on local history, indexes and lists of references and much more.
The subsection Kalevala will tell about the Karelian and Finnish epic poem Kalevala, projects and events related to it.
Lovers of the history of Karelia and Petrozavodsk will be interested in the subsection dedicated to the project of the National Library of Karelia Read Streets like Books!. As a part of the project, specialists of the Department of National and Local Literature and Bibliography conduct walking tours around the city.
The subsection Nicholas Roerich in Karelia will open a door to the Karelian Center of Nicholas Roerich, which has been working in the National Library of Karelia since 2019.
The subsection dedicated to the local history will be constantly replenished.
