An international teleconference ”Model library: what is it?” was held by the National Library of Karelia and S. Toraigyrov Universal Scientific Library of Pavlodar Region (Pavlodar, the Republic of Kazakhstan).
The total number of participants was 89 people, including 35 from the municipal libraries of the Republic of Karelia.
The teleconference participants were welcomed by Marina Nikishina, Head of the National Library of the Republic of Karelia, and Sholpan Shakhmetova, Head of S. Toraigyrov Universal Scientific Library of Pavlodar Region. At the beginning of the meeting, the participants watched a video film in order to get acquainted with the activities of the Library of Pavlodar Region. Ainagul Zhilkibekova, Head of the Library Development Department of the Library of Pavlodar Region, spoke about the reorganisation of rural libraries in Pavlodar Region into modern culture and leisure centres.
At the National Library of the Republic of Karelia, a regional project office has been working for five years; it provides municipal libraries with consulting, methodical and practical help in matters related to the modernization of the libraries. Natalia Feklicheva, Head of the Department of Organization and Methods of the Library Work, told about the activities of the regional project office and steps that have been implemented in Karelia to establish a new generation of libraries as part of the Culture national project. Managers and experts of the municipal libraries of Karelia shared their creative ideas, non-standard solutions and the most successful practices related to model libraries. During the event, there was a constructive discussion about the modernization of the libraries, the purpose of which is the formation of a harmoniously developed personality.
