21/12/2022. A round table discussion to the 5th anniversary of the Karelian Centre of the St. Petersburg Roerich Family Museum and Institute

The National Library of Karelia held important events as a part of the exhibition of facsimile copies of paintings by Nicholas Roerich dedicated to Sergius of Radonezh.
The Karelian Roerich Centre, the St. Petersburg Roerich Family Museum and Institute and the Petrozavodsk State University organized a round table discussion dedicated to Sergius of Radonezh. The aim of the event was to strengthen the spiritual and moral resources of the population of the Republic of Karelia.
The participants of the round table discussion were welcomed by L. D. Boychenko, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Karelia; Yanzhmaa Bira, Director of the Roerich Museum in Ulan Bator; A.P. Lukin, Head of Pravoslavnyi Sobor Karelian regional public organization, Cavalier of the Order of Sergius of Radonezh; M.V. Maksimchuk, General Director of the Donetsk Republican Local History Museum.
Guests from St. Petersburg, A. A. Bondarenko, Head of the St. Petersburg Roerich Family Museum and Institute; Y. Y. Budnikova, Deputy Director for Museum and Exhibition Work of the St. Petersburg Roerich Family Museum and Institute; A. A. Savkina, Deputy Director for Research of the St. Petersburg Roerich Family Museum and Institute; S. Y. Kharkova, researcher at the St. Petersburg Roerich Family Museum and Institute and junior researcher at the Institute of Russian Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences; G. B. Mayorova, Head of the Tsarskoye Selo icon-painting workshop spoke about the work on studying the spiritual heritage of Sergius of Radonezh in the works by N. K. Roerich and the role of art in shaping the images of historical heroes and the corresponding national worldview.
The scientists of the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies of the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences of PetrSU – Professor L. A. Klyukina, Associate professor L. V. Mikhailova and Associate professor A. M. Pekina – determined the significance of the deeds of the Saint from the philosophical, moral and educational positions.
From the National Library, writer Y. L. Zhemoitelite showed various artistic interpretations of the plot of the Holy Island.
Saveli Ekimenok, student of the 8th form of Petrozavodsk Secondary School No. 35, presented to the participants of the event his considered and sincere report about the childhood years of Bartholomew of Radonezh and the role of his parents in the formation of character and moral principles of the Great Russian Saint.
The Round Table participants agreed to adopt the final document, which will form proposals for improving the state ideological and practical approaches in the formation of the patriotic self-awareness of the citizens of Karelia, their personal responsibility for the fate of the Fatherland based on the spiritual teachings of Sergius of Radonezh.
On the 21st of December, L. P. Zhokhova held an excursion to the current exhibition. Further plans for joint work were discussed.
