14/03/2022. The competition The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia has started

The National Library of the Republic of Karelia opened the XXII exhibition The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia 2021. The exhibition annually marks the beginning of the competition The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia.
The competition is being held among publishing houses and publishing organizations of the republic. In accordance with the regulation, the participant shall apply in order to take part in the competition. Between February 1 and March 5, 2022 the National Library of the Republic of Karelia has collected applications.
The book products published in the Republic of Karelia and got by the Book Chamber as a legal deposit copy from January 1 to December 31, 2021 participate in the competition.
In 2022, the exhibition The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia is being held in the traditional format. There are 318 editions at the exhibition: local literature, educational and business literature, works by Karelian writers, books for children and literature in national languages.
Everyone can vote for his or her favourite book in the category Reader's Choice by visiting the virtual exhibition The Book of the Year 2021 till April 20 on the site of the National Library of the Republic of Karelia.
During the exhibition, the editions will be evaluated by experts, and everyone will be able to vote for his or her favourite book.
The competition will determine winners in the following categories:
- Karelia = Karjala
- Book Art
- Cool Book
- Science Light
- Read and Re-read
- My Land and Its’ People
The book, which will have received the largest number of awards in various categories, will be awarded the title The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia 2021. The organizing committee of the competition includes representatives of ministries, departments, public organizations, publishing houses and libraries.
The competition demonstrates the current state of the book publishing industry and facilitates development of the printing and publishing industry. It allows book publishers and printing companies to demonstrate their capabilities in the field of book design and printing.
According to the tradition, summing up the results of the XXII competition and awarding the winning books will be held on the 23rd of April on the World Book and Copyright Day at the National Library of Karelia.
