05/03/2019. Literary and Musical Evening Live Kalevala

On the International Day of Kalevala, the literary and musical evening Live Kalevala was held at the National Library of Karelia. The evening was dedicated to the rune-singers, whose heritage lies at the heart of the epic poem “Kalevala” by Elias Lönnrot and for centuries has been an inexhaustible source of inspiration for people of many creative professions. The participants of the evening could get acquainted with the folklore sources of Kalevala, hear archival authentic records of Karelian folklore, familiarize themselves with the creative heritage of Karelian narrators and see fragments of documentary newsreels created in different years.
The creative program of the evening included a demonstration of unique photographs made by the Finnish photographer Into Konrad Inha in Karelia in 1894. The runes of Kalevala were performed by the national artist of Karelia Vieno Kettunen, runes from the repertoire of Jussi Huovinen were performed by the ethno-musicologist, musician and teacher of the Petrozavodsk State Conservatory Igor Solovyov. The program was attended by the staff of the National Library who performed a literary and musical composition based on the poem "Kantele" by the national writer of Karelia Y. V. Rugoyev and students of the Department of German and French with lively declamation in the folk traditions of Kalevala runes in German and Russian.
At the end of the evening a guest of the National Library, an OSCE expert, a well-known peacekeeper Vladimir Ragozin told about the publication of the Kalevala in the Macedonian language and performed a fragment of a poem in Macedonian. He presented as a gift the Kalevala edition in the Macedonian language to the National Library of the Republic of Karelia. A new book will be added to the Kalevala collection of the National Library.
