27/03/2024. “Names in the History of Karelia”: Armas Mishin
The Internet project of the National Library of Karelia “Names in the History of Karelia” published an electronic publication “Dedicatory Inscriptions on Books from the Personal Collection of Armas Mishin in the Collections of the National Library of the Republic of Karelia,” representing publications donated to the library by the People's Writer of Karelia A. Mishin.
The collection, consisting of 310 books, was donated by the writer's friends – Mikhail Stepanov, Head of Ortjo Stepanov Foundation and the Literary and Ethnographic Museum of the People's Writer of Karelia Ortjo Stepanov, and his wife Olga Stepanova, the organizer of the museum's exhibition work.
Armas Mishin (1935-2018) – translator, literary critic, Candidate of Philological Sciences and public figure. In 1998, A. Mishin, together with a scientist Eino Kiuru, made a complete translation of the Kalevala epic poem into Russian, which was awarded the Sampo Prize of the Chairman of the Government of Karelia. From 1990 to 2005, he was the Chairman of the Board of the Union of Writers of Karelia.
A.I. Mishin was a famous person in the literary world. The collection includes publications in various languages with dedicatory inscriptions from famous writers, folklorists, journalists from Karelia, Russia and the Finno-Ugric world, researchers at the Institute of Language, Literature and History of the Karelian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and famous cultural figures of Finland.
The National Library of Karelia thanks the family of Armas Mishin, Mikhail Stepanov and Olga Stepanova for the donated collection, which gives an idea of the writer’s area of interest, showing a wide circle of his friends and colleagues in the writer’s literary work, preserving the historical memory of the writer.
