08/12/2021. "Karelian Gods: Agricola's List" – calendar 2022
December 5, 2021:
The National Library of Karelia held a presentation of the Calendar “Karelian Gods: Agricola's List". The "Runola" project team worked on the calendar. At the presentation, Tatyana Berdasheva told about the stages of the calendar development. Thanks to the well-coordinated work of the Runola project team, the historical texts collected by Mikael Agricola have got a new embodiment.
The features of the calendar "Karelian Gods: Agricola's List" are illustrations. According to the authors of the calendar, the team of the Runola project for the first time in 470 years has turned the descriptions of Karelian gods collected by Agricola into colorful illustrations. This was quite difficult work, as often the god’s description contains only one unique god’s trait. The imagination of the artist was needed here. Ekaterina Demakova perfectly coped with this task.
Maria Kundozerova, a Researcher at the Institute of Language, Literature and History of the Karelian Scientific Center, a Candidate of Philology, translated the medieval lists of Mikael Agricola into the Karelian language. Elena Soini, a well-known philologist, literary critic, poetess and playwright, was engaged in the literary translation of the lists into Russian.
Printing and layout of the calendar was carried out by the publishing house "Belkolesye" (Head Ilya Serko). The curator of the project is Tatyana Berdasheva, a Senior Researcher at the Museum Agency of the Leningrad Region, and the editor – Inna Nippolainen.
The broadcast recording is available for everyone. The calendar can be purchased at the Bookstall of the National Library of the Republic of Karelia.
