Winter in Olonets Governorate in Riddles, Questions, Predictions, Poems, Paintings and Books
The National Library of the Republic of Karelia presents to its readers an information resource dedicated to the everyday and festive winter life of the indigenous peoples of Olonets Governorate.
The virtual exhibition tells about how Olonets residents lived in winter: what they did, how they moved, and how they dressed. Winter was quite a difficult test for the population of the governorate. Despite all the difficulties of winter everyday life, winter brought a lot of joy. During the winter, the most solemn and joyful holidays were celebrated: Christmas, Christmastide, Epiphany, and New Year.
During the acquaintance with the exhibition, readers have an opportunity to demonstrate their erudition and answer questions related to the theme of the exhibition. As illustrative material, reproductions of paintings by mainly Karelian artists are used, the theme of which is the Karelian winter. The information resource presents publications from the collection of the National Library of Karelia.
An additional list of literature is given in the electronic catalogue of the National Library of Karelia. Answers to riddles can be found in books with Karelian riddles. Look for answers to questions on the slides of the virtual book exhibition and on the pages of the quiz Kruuga: Everyday Life of Olonets Governorate in Riddles, Proverbs, Sayings and Questions.
