19/02/2024. The eighth all-Russian campaign Give books with Love 2024
February 12 – 18, 2024:
The all-Russian campaign Give Books with Love has been held for the eighth time. The campaign is timed to coincide with International Book Day, which is celebrated on February 14.
The initiators of the action are the Russian State Children's Library and the Raising the Reader Association. The event is conducting with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the Russian Book Union and the Association of Book Distributors of Russia. According to the initiators, the main idea of the campaign is to inspire people to give each other good books and remind that a paper book does not lose its value and still remains a relevant gift.
Over the past seven years, 87 regions of our country have already joined the action. Through joint efforts, more than a million books have been collected and donated to organizations in need.
In 2023, the National Library of Karelia collected more than 300 books and sent them to the municipal libraries of the republic.
In 2024, the National Library was supporting the Give Books with Love campaign in a different way.
The days of the Book Giving Week from February 12 to 18 were filled with literary events: meetings, games, exhibitions, competitions, the focus of which is books, their authors and, of course, readers. Specialists from the Children's Reading Center of the National Library of Karelia hold a creative Book Kitten event for the youngest readers and the opening of the Photo Zone on Pushkin's Fairy Tales.
On February 7, on the eve of Book Giving Week, on the initiative of the National Library of Karelia, the annual event Let’s Read Together, Let’s Read Aloud! took place simultaneously in eight districts of the republic. More than three hundred active readers took part in the event. They read the best stories and fairy tales by Vitaly Bianki (1894 - 1959), famous writer, nature connoisseur, who’s anniversary will be held in 2024.
