The President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev held a session of the Presidium of the State Council on information society development in Petrozavodsk.
Before the beginning of the session of Presidium of the State Council Dmitry Medvedev, accompanied by heads of Karelia, has visited some institutions of Petrozavodsk where he has familiarized with practice of using information technologies.
The Head of the State was shown a remote presentation of the National Library of Republic of Karelia in the Museum of Fine Arts of Karelia.
Information technologies (IT) were implemented in the National Library in 1992. Irina Dobrynina, director of the National Library, told Dmitry Medvedev what resources and services were available to the public through the Internet and how libraries of Karelia developed online services on the basis of IT.
Nowadays it is possible to visit the National Library from any location with Internet access, as when registering at the library, a person gets his/her own electronic library card. The library also provides an access to the scientific and educational information, which is in disposal of main Russian and foreign databases.
The President highly estimated the work done on implementation of IT in the National Library of Republic of Karelia.
