The National Library of Karelia held a long-awaited lecture by an architect, architectural and local historian Elena Itsikson. Theme was The Historic Feodorovsky Gorodok (Town) – an Experimental Field of Russian Architecture. The lecture series Roerich and Architecture continues.
The lecture was dedicated to the Feodorovsky Gorodok established in Tsarskoye Selo by the order of Emperor Nicholas II. Its buildings were constructed in 1913-1915 according to the design of the architect Stepan Krichinsky in the traditions of the Pskov and Novgorod architecture of the 16th century and the chambers of Rostov the Great. Nikolai Roerich also took part in the development of the idea. Roerich's work in this direction was highly appreciated, and therefore he was considered worthy of becoming the founder of the Society of Revival of Artistic Russia (OVHR) in 1915. The society's activities consisted of preserving the national artistic heritage, which was approved by the intellectuals and the people of the Russian Empire.
