09/03/2026. The Inspiring World of the Kalevala
The large reading room of the National Library of Karelia presents a stand exhibition, The Inspiring World of the Kalevala. The exhibition's main idea is to demonstrate that the epic poem has always been a source of inspiration for creative professionals, working in various techniques and genres – artists, composers, musicians, and performers. The exhibition also introduces the biography and multifaceted work of E. Lönnrot, as well as publications from the library's collection of the epic poem. The texts were prepared by E. Saikonen and P. Solovieva. Design by I. Kempi.
The exhibition also features a series of masks of characters from the Kalevala epic poem created by Elias Lönnrot based on Karelian and Finnish myths, runic songs, and ritual texts: "The Bull of Suomi," "Hiisi", "Väinämöinen," and " Louhi." The masks were created by Daria Andreeva, a student at the Petrozavodsk Children's and Youth Art Centre no 2.
