06/06/2017. The 10th Summer School ”Modern Rural Library”
The 10th Summer School for Rural Librarians of Karelia ”Modern Rural Library” was held in Petrozavodsk. The event was organized by the National Library of Karelia, the Karelian College of Culture and Arts, the Library Association of the Republic of Karelia.
The Summer School was attended by 70 persons, among them there were 36 specialists of Karelian municipal libraries, 21 heads and specialists of republican libraries, 2 specialists of the Russian National Library (Saint-Petersburg) and representatives of local authorities of Belomorsk municipal district and Sosnovets village.
During the Summer School practical and theoretical lessons, professional programs and site meetings were held on the following themes:
- Rural Library – Population – Authorities: Challenges and Perspectives
- Library Resources in Reading Promotion
- Professional program Sosnovets Modal Library is the Center of Community Life
- Site meeting of experts Rural Library and Authorities: Relationships and Opportunities for Cooperation
- Professional program Modern Public Municipal Library. What should it be?
- Lessons in a creative laboratory Library without Holidays in the Children Library of the Republic of Karelia
- Professional program Successful Practices in Rural Libraries.
The first day of the Summer School was dedicated to the theme Rural Library – Population – Authorities: Challenges and Perspectives. The Library Association of the Republic of Karelia, that received in 2017 a presidential grant for the project Rural Library as the Environment of the Possibilities of the Municipality and Communication of the Citizens of Karelia, invited to the Summer School specialists of the Russian National Library Sergey Basov and Anna Stepanova. The invited lecturers told about cooperation of civil society and libraries and promotion of reading in Russian libraries.
On the 31st of May due to the project funds gained by the Library Association of the Republic of Karelia participants of the Summer School visited the Sosnovets Model Library, which is a part of Belomorsk Library System. There librarians participated in a professional program Sosnovets Modal Library is the Center of Community Life. Besides a site meeting of experts Rural Library and Authorities: Relationships and Opportunities for Cooperation was held in the library as a part of the project.
According to the tradition the program of the Summer School contained presentations made by its participants about successful work experience of rural libraries. A professional program Successful Practices in Rural Libraries was a part of the Summer School program. Librarians presented their vision and experience in popularizing books and reading, regional studies, environmental education and promotion of a healthy lifestyle among adolescents, library services for people with disabilities.
On the 2nd of June the Summer School was closed and its participants got Certificates of Professional Development issued by the Karelian College of Culture and Arts.
