12/09/2023. Tactile Aids Workshop will open in the National Library of Karelia
September 12, 2023:
The National Library of Karelia takes an active part in Tactile Aids Workshop project supported by the Grants Fund of the Head of the Republic of Karelia.
The goal of the project is to increase access to knowledge about the surrounding world among children with disabilities, incl. blind and visually impaired, in Petrozavodsk.
The project will develop and implement a program of master classes on creating tactile aids at the National Library of Karelia, where unique experience in creating tactile books and aids has already been gained. The project provides an opportunity to go through a training cycle in the creation, development and production of tactile aids; it will teach teachers, parents of children with disabilities, as well as volunteers to work competently with them. The manuals themselves, based on the results of the master classes, will be made available to families with children with disabilities.
A video course on creating tactile aids is also planned as part of the project. The project will end with a final round table with a presentation of work experience and methodological approaches, as well as a demonstration of tactile aids.
The project is focused on creating an accessible creative space for parents with children with disabilities, incl. blind and visually impaired. The mission of the project is to expand learning opportunities and creative self-realization, and to provide assistance to parents. As a result of the project, volunteers and parents, as well as teachers will gain new skills in the production of tactile aids. Besides, it will help children in understanding the world around them.
The project’s activities will contribute to both the establishment of intra-family creative educational and developmental communication, the establishment of a comfortable psycho-emotional climate, and communication with other families who have a disabled child, which means there are similar problems and difficulties. The project will involve parents of children with intact intelligence, hearing, vision, speech, musculoskeletal, and central nervous system impairments.
The project partner is the Centre for Social and Labour Rehabilitation “Harmony”, the project coordinator is the “Northern Development” organization. The project will be implemented on the premises of the National Library of Karelia.
The project also cooperates with the Library Association of the Republic of Karelia, Special (Correctional) Boarding School No. 23 for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Information support for the project is provided by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia and the Public Chamber of the Republic of Karelia.
