25/04/2017. Summing up the results of the Book of the Year 2016 of the Republic of Karelia Contest
The National Library of Karelia held the awarding ceremony of the XVII Contest “The Book of the Year 2016 of the Republic of Karelia”
On the 21st of April 2017 the National Library of Karelia held the awarding ceremony of XVII Contest “The Book of the Year 2016 of the Republic of Karelia”. The event held on the eve of the World Book and Copyright Day was attended by representatives of the founders and organizers of the competition, members of the expert groups, publishers and authors, distributors of book production and reading lovers.
The annual contest was participated by books received by the Book Chamber of the Republic of Karelia as the legal deposit copies in 2016. Among them, there were 548 names of books and brochures, printed music and dissertation abstracts. About 60 publishing houses and publishing organizations competed for the top places in the contest’s categories and for the title of the Book of the Year. Between March 13 and March 26, 2017, all publications were presented at the book exhibition, which could be visited by everyone.
The exhibition and contest events were visited by 700 people, the lending was about 1100 books. Visitors could vote for their favorite books at the exhibition. Besides the year-round virtual exhibition, the Book of the Year 2016, was also opened, and during a month, visitors of the website of the National Library could vote online. In the framework of the contest, the library has held several events. These were meetings with Karelian writers Elena Pietilyainen, Konstantin Gnetnev, Evgeny Pekki, Igor Vostryakov. A presentation of books by Y. Shleikin and A. Tsunsky was held. School librarians from Petrozavodsk participated in a review of books published in Karelia and a presentation of books by Ostrova publishing house.
