June, 6: Pushkin Day at the National Library of Karelia
June 6, 2019:
The annual Pushkin Day and the Day of the Russian Language took place in the National Library of Karelia.
Traditionally, the holiday began with the event “Flowers to the Poet”, where, in honor of the 220th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin, sincere and warm words about the importance and relevance of his literary heritage were said. As proof of this, Pushkin's poems were performed by schoolchildren, students, writers and citizens of Petrozavodsk at the library square near the monument to the poet.
At the same time, numerous events were held at the library: library staff together with students of the Balakirev Children's Art School and the secondary school No. 10 named after A. S. Pushkin showed theatrical improvisation with elements of live music.
The interactive program “Pushkin in your format” held at diverse places was very popular: guests had the opportunity to prove to everyone that they know best poems by Alexander Pushkin, tried to find out familiar foreign translations of Pushkin's works and made every effort to solve the mystery of the synthesis of music and poetry. Also, everyone could get acquainted with rare and lifetime editions of Pushkin’s works, take part in a quiz dedicated to interesting and incomprehensible words found in the poet’s works, go through a quest on favorite fairy tales, as well as make a magnet or bookmark for books in the form of a golden fish.
In an atmosphere of positive emotions and enlightenment, a literary quiz “And who knows? Pushkin? ” was held. It was an intellectual team confrontation that left no one indifferent.
The Day of the Russian Language was an excellent occasion for a solemn meeting of the Union of Pushkin’s Schools, which celebrated its 20th anniversary. The participants expressed their gratitude to the staff and the administration of the library for a long-time and fruitful cooperation, noted the brightest moments of the experience of working together.
Within the framework of the Literary Thursday, a meeting dedicated to the influence of the works by Alexander Pushkin on the writers of the 20th century took place. The holiday ended with the Pushkin Ball, where the participants demonstrated knowledge of etiquette, ball culture, and of course, Pushkin’s poetry.
