21/03/2024. Presentation of Tatyana Pryazhenkova’s Tales of the Dark Forest collection took place in the library
March 21, 2024:
The National Library of Karelia held a presentation of Tatyana Pryazhenkova’s Tales of the Dark Forest collection (Rus. Ñêàçêè ò¸ìíîãî ëåñà).
Tatyana Pryazhenkova is a young Karelian author, and the presentation of the collection of fairy tales Tales of the Dark Forest became a debut for her. This is not the first time that the National Library of Karelia has become the site of an author’s debut. In 2016, the National Library of Karelia hosted the Own World exhibition which became the artistic debut for Tatyana. Since then, Tatyana Pryazhenkova has been known to the Karelian audience as an artist with an interesting, memorable style. Tatyana's exhibitions are held in various art spaces in Petrozavodsk and cultural institutions in Karelia.
At the presentation of the fairy tales collection, Tatyana spoke about what inspired her to write fairy tales and create the collection. Tales of the Dark Forest is the author’s new writing experience for a children’s audience. Previously, Tatyana Pryazhenkova wrote the stories Cardboard Box (Rus. Êàðòîííàÿ êîðîáêà), Echo (Rus. Ýõî), Myriads (Rus. Ìèðèàäû), Planet Ross (Rus. Ïëàíåòà Ðîññ), an action-packed novel called Faceless (Rus. Áåçëèêèé), and a collection of short stories Fireflies (Rus. Ñâåòëÿêè) (available on the Liters platform).
The guests of the presentation were children from Petrozavodsk secondary school No. 25. During the presentation, they talked to the author and were able to ask Tatyana interesting questions about what it is like to be a modern young author, and also learn about the world of fairy tales from the Tales of the Dark Forest. Children learned about the role of elves and other magical creatures in the fairy-tale world of Tatyana Pryazhenkova. Together with Tatyana, the children chose four fairy-tale characters and created drawings that emphasized the character of the magical heroes.
The Tales of the Dark Forest is available for reading in the National Library of Karelia and on the Litres platform.
