22/09/2023. Petrozavodsk held the final conference of the Polycultural Cities project
September 21, 2023:
Specialists from the National Library of Karelia received guests from Veliky Novgorod, Pskov, Vyborg and Kaliningrad. On this day, Petrozavodsk held the final conference of the Polycultural Cities project, implemented by the Karelian Public Diplomacy Development Foundation with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives. The National Library of Karelia was a partner in the project.
Library specialists conducted two excursions for our guests. First, there was a walk along Pushkinskaya Street as a part of the Read the Streets like Books project, and then the delegation was introduced to the halls of the National Library. During the round table discussion, library specialists told conference participants about projects to involve young people in the study of the traditions and cultures of the peoples of Karelia and discussed prospects for further cooperation.
The aim of the project is to strengthen tolerance and interethnic harmony among secondary school students through the recognition of the culture, traditions and history of the peoples of neighbouring regions. In two years, library specialists as members of the Karelian creative group have visited program partner cities – Veliky Novgorod, Pskov, Vyborg and Kaliningrad – and held programs on the Karelian culture for children and adults.
