25/12/2018. Participants in the project Dialogue with Citizens visited Finland
December 16-19, 2018:
Within the framework of the project “Dialogue with Citizens”, a trip to Finland to the cities of Imatra and Lappeenranta was organized. The delegation included representatives of St. Petersburg, Sestroretsk, Norway and Karelia. The Karelian delegation was represented by: the Karelian Resource Center for Public Organizations, the National Library of Karelia, the Central Library System of the city of Petrozavodsk, the Council of Municipalities of the Republic of Karelia, and the Central Library System of the city of Olonets.
On the first day, the delegation visited the city of Lappeenranta, where a seminar was organized on the exchange of experience in the framework of the project Dialogue with Citizens.
Nikolai Oskin, the Head of the Karelian Resource Center for Public Organizations, presented general information about the project, interim results, plans and expected results.
In turn, representatives of Finland shared their experience and practices of working with the public. The project participants visited the library of the city of Lappeenranta and got acquainted with its structure and activities, and also visited the library of the city of Imatra. Imatra Library, a part of the House of Culture, actively cooperates with the education system, and one of the interesting areas of this library is the Valley of Stories, where music and creative programs for children are held. The main goal of Finnish libraries is to organize a creative space for people to interact and communicate. This is also relevant for the National Library of Karelia and libraries of the republic, since the libraries today are open socio-cultural centers, a territory for reading, communication and creativity. On the final day of the trip, the delegation visited the Imatra City Administration, where they got acquainted with the main activities.
At the multicultural center participants discussed the problem of immigrants and the role of libraries in adapting this category of population. In conclusion, dates were scheduled for visit of Finnish project partners to Karelia.
