14/03/2024. Orthodox Book Day at the National Library of Karelia

The National Library of Karelia together with the Petrozavodsk and Karelian diocese celebrated the Orthodox Book Day, an important date in the history of culture and education in Russia. The event participants were students from the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology of Petrozavodsk State University.
This year, the Orthodox Book Day was dedicated to the book collection “Orthodox Library”, donated to the National Library in 2012 by the Spaso-Kizhsky Patriarchal Metochion of the Petrozavodsk and Karelian Diocese. The collection's publications tell about the history of the Russian Orthodox Church, ancient Russian churches and monasteries, famous church figures, the art of ancient Russian icon painting and architecture, and much more.
Priest Evgeny Baryshev, Clergyman of the Parish of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, delivered a welcoming speech dedicated to the Orthodox Book Day on behalf of the Petrozavodsk and Karelian Diocese. In his speech, Father Evgeniy touched upon the history and activities of the Spaso-Kizhsky Patriarchal Metochion, drawing attention to the important educational mission of the Metochion among parishioners.
The participants of the meeting heard a story about the publications of the collection dedicated to the Valaam and Alexander-Svirsky monasteries, the collections of ancient Russian icons of the Andrei Rublev Museum, the Arkhangelsk and Kostroma museums, about the Russian Saints Alexander Nevsky, Sergius of Radonezh and Seraphim of Sarov. Listeners remembered the stories and tales by I. Bunin, B. Zaitsev, I. Shmelev about travel to holy places, including the Valaam Monastery. The participants of the lecture were presented with a book exhibition of literature from the Orthodox Library collection.
The Orthodox Library collection is presented at the electronic catalogue of the National Library.
