03/12/2024. Library cooperation: book exchange between the National Library of the Republic of Karelia and the National Library of Belarus
October 2024:
The National Library of the Republic of Karelia and the National Library of Belarus signed an agreement on book exchange for the mutually beneficial replenishment of library collections.
For the National Library of Karelia, the opportunity to obtain knowledge and information about the culture and literature of Belarus is of particular importance. The National Library of Belarus, in turn, gains access to Karelian literature and the cultural traditions of the region, presented in the library collections.
The themes of the literature participating in the exchange are so diverse that they allow libraries to satisfy the most versatile interests of their users. This includes both fiction and specialized scientific publications. The first batch of books from Belarus has already arrived - these are books on the history of Belarus from the 9th to the beginning of the 20th centuries, a book on the Great Patriotic War, telling about the battles in July 1941 for Mogilev, a monograph on the USSR experience in the field of state awards, etc. The National Library of Karelia also sent to Belarus the first batch of books on the history of literature, art, folklore, and indigenous peoples living in Karelia.
This interaction increases the collections of both libraries and creates new opportunities for developing mutually beneficial cooperation in the future.
