The International training seminar The Development of Non-motorized Modes of Transport as an Alternative to the Use of Private Vehicles. The Possibilities of Adaptation of Foreign Experience in the Russian Conditions - Challenges and Solutions started in Petrozavodsk. The seminar was organized by the Ministry of Transport of Russian Federation, the Research Institute of automobile transport and the Bicycle Movement of Karelia. The seminar was held in the conference hall of the National Library of Karelia.
The goal of the seminar was to popularize the ideas of improving road safety and develop non-motorized modes of transport. The seminar was attended by experts from different countries, representatives of UN European Economic Commission, World Health Organization, speakers from Holland, Norway, Serbia, Moldova, Denmark and Finland, participants and experts from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Irkutsk, Arkhangelsk, Saratov, Kazan and Rostov-on-Don.
At the opening ceremony the seminar participants were welcomed by Dmitri Osipovski, the Head of the Department of The Ministry of Transport of Russian Federation, Aleksandr Voronov, the Minister of the Republic of Karelia of Youth Affairs, Physical Training, and Sports, Viktoria Ivanova, (the Department of Sustainable Transport, UN European Economic Commission), Virginia Fuse, the Head of the Environmental Department, UN European Economic Commission, Christian Schweitzer (WHO Regional Office for Europe).
