02/10/2024. Exhibition to the 210th anniversary of Mikhail Lermontov
October 1, 2024:
The Rare Books and Book Monuments Sector of the National Library of Karelia opened a book exhibition, dedicated to the 210th anniversary of Mikhail Lermontov.
The exhibition presents several collections of the poet's works, including two that are most important for studying his creative legacy: the five-volume academic Complete Works edited by Professor D. Abramovich (1910-1913) and the Complete Works published by the Academia Publishing House in 1935-1937 edited by Boris Eikhenbaum, also in five volumes. Both editions are supplied with photographs of M. Lermontov's manuscripts (including his drawings), which gives them special value.
Of great interest are also the poet's lifetime publications. M. Lermontov's works were repeatedly published in Otechestvennye Zapiski (Eng. Patriotic Notes) magazine, and at the exhibition one can see the volumes of this magazine for 1839 and 1841 with famous poems, as well as the Fatalist story, which was later included as a separate chapter in A Hero of Our Time novel. All the issues of Otechestvennye Zapiski presented at the exhibition belonged to Grand Duke Mikhail Romanov.
Of the editions of individual works by M. Lermontov, the following are noteworthy: Demon with colour illustrations by A. Eberling published by the St. Petersburg partnership of R. Golike and A. Vilborg in 1910, and A Song about Tsar Ivan Vasilyevich... with illustrations by Ivan Bilibin (published in 1944).
