August 23, 2017:
A walking tour Alexander Nevsky on the map of Petrozavodsk was held in the framework of the Orthodox Initiative project.
From its very beginning, the history of Petrozavodsk has been inextricably linked with Alexander Nevsky. He was considered the heavenly protector of the Novgorod lands, which included Karelian pogosts. The participants of the project with the librarian of the Department of National and Local Literature and Bibliography Vera Yagodkina went by the route from the National Library to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, learned about the history of the Peter and Paul Cathedral, House church of Olonets Male Gymnasium and Alexandrovsky Factory.
The participants of the excursion visited Alexander Nevsky’s monument established in 2010 in the year of the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia near the Cathedral of Alexander Nevsky, learned interesting and little-known facts from the history of construction and restoration of the Cathedral and its original name - the Alexander Nevsky Factory Church.
