15/07/2025. Coldest children's program "The Arctic is near"
On July 15, in the middle of the "Summer with the National Library", the coldest children's program "The Arctic is near" took place. The Arctic is not just close. One third of Russia's territory belongs to the Arctic zone, including Karelia. The program participants viewed the Arctic on a globe, found out what animals inhabit it, discussed the activities of its indigenous peoples and watched an educational cartoon about the explorers of these cold lands. The fascinating quiz did not leave anyone indifferent: the children answered questions about books by Nikolai Sladkov ("In the Ice"), Yuri Yakovlev ("Umka"), Oleg Sotnikov ("Papanin`s expedition. Drifting on an ice floe"). Not everyone read these books before the program, but everyone wanted to read them after! After all, these books contain answers to very interesting riddles, funny facts and wonderful illustrations!
The girls and boys were very interested in the fact that dogs played a huge role in the development of the northern lands. They not only transported people and goods, but also helped scare away bears, served as a "navigator" and were faithful companions of travelers! The partiсipants made their own "polar dogs" out of paper and organized "dog races". In the final part of the program an excursion to the Museum of Applied Environmental Research took place. The participants of the program were able to see many Arctic species of plants, insects and rodents, and looked through microscopes at microorganisms living in northern waters. The impressions were embodied in drawings on the asphalt!
