The Institute of Geology of the Karelian Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences gave comic books about the geology of our region, "Educational Journeys of Karelian Animals: Science for the Little Ones" (2nd edition) and "Educational Journeys of Karelian Animals. New Adventures: Science for the Little Ones," by Anna Danilova and Sergei Svetov, to the Children's Reading Centre of the National Library of Karelia.
The books were published as part of the project Stone Chronicle of Karelia: Popularization of Geological and Mining-Industrial Heritage. In these educational comic books, four curious animals are readers' guides to the world of geology: Mitya the bear, Liza the fox, Igor the hedgehog, and Anton the mole. In the first part, the animals' journey follows the route Mount Vottovaara - the Devil's Chair rock (Petrozavodsk) - the Girvas volcano - Martsialnyje vody - Yalgora - the village of Belaya Gora - the village of Shunga. The second comic book tells about a journey through equally remarkable geological sites: Ruskeala Mountain Park and Lake Yanisyarvi - Kivach Waterfall - the Uksa River - Kamenny Bor Park (Petrozavodsk). In an entertaining way, young readers get acquainted with several terms and geological events in the history of our region. The publications will be available in the Department of Primary and School Age at the Children's Reading Centre of the National Library.
