The National Library of Karelia held a seminar Book Monuments – Identification, Storage, Use for professionals of the cultural and educational organisations of Karelia (libraries, archives, museums and high schools), whose collections contain book monuments and rare books. The event took place online.
Marina Nikishina, Head of the National Library of Karelia, welcomed the participants in the seminar.
Irina Rudenko, Head of the Department of the Russian State Library (Moscow), opened the seminar. The theme of her presentation was the register of book monuments of the Russian Federation – the main state registration database of book monuments of Russia.
Ekaterina Odinets, Head of the Rare Books and Book Monuments Sector, presented the experience of the National Library of Karelia in identification, studying and preserving book heritage. Olga Zharinova, Leading researcher of the Kizhi State Museum-Reserve, introduced the seminar participants to the museum collection Written Sources, which includes handwritten and early printed books.
The video report by Alexander Pigin, Doctor of Philology, Professor, Leading Researcher at the Institute of Language, Literature and History of the Karelian Scientific Center (RAS), and Lyudmila Kharebova, independent researcher, was dedicated to the collection of A. D. Sinyavsky (manuscripts and Cyrillic editions of the 17th-20th centuries), which replenished the funds of the National Museum of Karelia in 2023.
Elena Voznesenskaya, Chief Bibliographer of the Rare Books and Book Monuments Sector, told about research work on the study of ex-librises and forms of popularization of book monuments.
