25/04/2016. BiblioNight-2016 in the National Library of the Republic of Karelia
April 22-23, 2016:
The National Library of the Republic of Karelia took part in the 5th BiblioNight Reading Festival.
Book, theatrical and cinematic transformations began before the sundown. Besides, they started at the place, which is out of reach of readers – at the library stacks – heroes of the book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland came to life. The witnesses of this phenomenon were our young guests and their parents. Hatter, queen, rabbit and of course, Alice herself told the children about rules of communication with book characters, book addresses and showed magazines in reading of that grandparents of today's children had been engrossed.
The main guest of the BiblioNight was a famous Russian film director, producer and actor Dmitry Astrakhan. He is an open and emotional narrator who disposes to himself. His story about his roots, the way in the arts and creative priorities, naturally transformed into communion with the audience and did not leave anybody indifferent.
This creative baton was taken up by favorite persons of Karelian movie fans: director and writer Vladimir Rudak and director of photography Aleksey Babenko. In addition to topical issues of cinema, the pressing social issues were discussed at the meeting, although creative work was the basic leitmotif of the conversation.
At the same time young readers decided to create a book with their hands. For the enthusiasts at the National Library there was a workshop Create Your Own Comic Book and a flash mob Your Cinema Hero was almost the living embodiment of these books.
The library opened an exhibition of graphics and paintings by Olga and Varvara Kondratievas. Besides there was a platform of comics and board games.
The organizers and participants of the BiblioNight used a creative approach to the interpretation of classic and modern literature. This night the book was not only an object of reading but also a witness of the epoch. The guests of the event saw plays that are the unique fusion of text, images, music, movement and acting. Together with heroes of The White Guard by M. Bulgakov we recalled the events of the Revolution and the Civil War, walked and danced around the streets of St-Petersburg of F. Dostoyevsky and Raskolnikov, and a modern play by Boris Guchin was presented as a theatrical collage in the style of kitsch.
This BiblioNight the poems were read at two platforms that were very popular. At the one of the platforms, guests could be acquainted with unique tactile books from the library collection.
Fans of songs and romances of the 20th century gathered to the musical lounge. Students of the Petrozavodsk State Conservatory and soloists of the Musical Theatre of the Republic of Karelia sang songs from Russian movies.
During the event, workshops, intellectual game room and quizzes were offered to the visitors. Many visitors managed to visit the plays, concerts, learned card catalogues, and books that are in the open access. This proves once again that the book culture has always been, is and will remain.
The National Library of the Republic of Karelia expresses deep gratitude to friends and partners without whom this festival would not be so bright, cheerful and so popular.
