30/11/2019. A Flame Out at Sea: presentation of the English edition of the novel by Dmitry Novikov

November 28, 2019: The National Library of Karelia held a presentation of the novel A Flame Out at Sea by Dmitry Novikov published in English. The novel A Flame Out at Sea, which saw the light of day in 2017, entered the short list of one of the main literary awards in Russia, Russian Booker. By decision of the jury, Dmitry Novikov was the only in the short list of the award, who was awarded a grant for the translation of the novel into English and its publication.

November 23, 2019: In the morning, Vepsians’ speech, Vepsian folk music, songs, proverbs and sayings were heard at the conference hall of the National Library of Karelia. The screen showed the territory of Vepsians who are indigenous people of the North-West of Russia filmed from a bird's eye view, covers of books in Vepsian language, a map of the territory between the Lake Onega and the Lake Ladoga, stories told by Vepsians, speeches by scientists who have devoted their activities to the study of customs, traditions and language of Vepsians, creation of Vepsian literature.

20/11/2019. The program Colors of Karelia

November 16, 2019: The National Library of Karelia met the guests of the holiday Kraski Karelii (Eng. Colors of Karelia) with a diverse palette of colors. For two hours, the library halls turned into a large open creative workshop. Adults and children studied the secrets of ancient musical instruments kantele and jouhikko together with ethnomusicologist Igor Solovyov, made dolls and forest inhabitants of Karelia with their own hands, created elements of a folk costume and, of course, read, played and painted fairy tales!

18/11/2019. Philologists-linguists competed in the Interpretation autumn game series

November 7 and 14, 2019: The National Library held language games Interpretation. The participants were students of the Institute of Philology (Petrozavodsk State University). The first in the team game were the second-year students of the specialty Foreign philology (Finnish language and literature, English language), and then first-year students of the specialty Foreign philology (English language and literature, German language) competed among themselves.

November 2, 2019: The National Library of Karelia held the evening My Hand in Your Hand dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia and the Republic of Mari El. In 2020, the republics will celebrate one hundred years of official formation. There is close cooperation between Karelia and Mari El in the field of culture and interethnic relations. The Republic of Mari El has a rich history and distinctive culture, amazingly beautiful nature, with many rivers and lakes located in very picturesque forests.
