XXV Annual conference of the Russian Library Association. 2021
The XXV All-Russian Library Congress of the Russian Library Association was held at the National Library of Karelia on May 16-20, 2021. Every year, Russian cities compete with each other for the right to call themselves the Library Capital of Russia and to host congressional guests. For the first time in the 25-year history of the Russian Library Association, Petrozavodsk has been the Library Capital of Russia for the second year in a row.
The Congress was dedicated to the theme Library 2030: Building the Future Today and to the two anniversaries of 2020: the 25th anniversary of the Russian Library Association and the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia.
For the first time, the annual conference of the Russian Library Association was held both live online and offline.
The largest library event in Russia was organized with the great support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Karelia. The Library Congress gathered in Petrozavodsk more than 1,000 library professionals from 63 Russian regions and 25 other countries.
Book exhibitions, training seminars, debates and discussions, lectures, cultural events, zoom-conferences etc. took place during the congress. In addition, a large book market was held on the premises of the Lotos Plaza Shopping Center, where Russian’s leading publishers presented their best new books.
The important events of the Congress were the meetings of the German-Russian Library Dialogue, established in 2009 on the initiative of the Russian State Library of Foreign Literature and the Berlin State Library.
In 2022, Nizhny Novgorod will take over the status of the Library Capital of Russia and await the participants of the Library Congress.
