17/10/2014. Literature event with Jonas Lüscher
October 17, 2014. A meeting with a writer Jonas Lüscher was held in the National Library of Karelia. Jonas Lüscher is a Swiss writer who lives and works in Munich. His new book “Barbarians’ Spring” was published in 2013 and got several prestigious literary awards.
To meet Karelian readers Jonas Lüscher arrived from St-Petersburg. It appeared that there are much more fans of German literature in Petrozavodsk than in St-Petersburg. The new conference hall of the National Library of Karelia was barely able to accommodate all guests. “Barbarians’ Spring” aroused great interest among young readers. The writer was surprised by readers’ excellent knowledge of the text and the German language. Jonas Lüscher read fragments from his book and answered questions about book, the German literature and himself.
The event was organized in the framework of the Year of the German Language and Literature with the support of the St-Petersburg Center of German Culture named after Goethe. The National Library of Karelia has been cooperating with this center for ten years.
The coordinator of the Library and Information Department of the Goethe-institute Viktoria Chertovskaya organized a quiz based on the book by Jonas Lüscher. Winners of the quiz got books in Russian with autograph by the author.
