26/02/2014. The Day of Kalevala
Every year on the 28th of February the Day of Kalevala is celebrated. In 2014 Kalevala celebrates it’s 165th anniversary, because in 1849 The New Kalevala (the version most commonly known today) was published. On the 28th of February 2014 the National Library of Karelia and the Puppet Theatre of Karelia invite everyone to take part in celebratory program named Inspiring World of Karelia.
Specialists of the library and actors of the theatre will organize an exciting trip to the world of the ancient Kalevala. The guests will see a unique collection of Kalevala editions in different languages. Visitors of the library will meet actors of Karelian puppet theatre Čičiliušku, workshops and cheerful quests and live sound of kantele. Young audience will watch a performance based on the Karelian and Finnish epic poem Kalevala.

13.30-14.30 A play for chlidren Sammol Lappalainen (based on the novel by Zachris Topelius). Ticket price is 100 rubles.
The National Library of Karelia
15.00-15.30 Opening of abook exhibition dedicated to Kalevala and poster exhibition Inspiring World of Kalevala. At the book exhibition there are old and modern editions of epic poem in different languages, and the poster exhibition is dedicated to Kalevala’s influence on development of art, music and theatre and the national culture.
15.30-17.00 A cheerful quest based on Kalevala for children and adults
