12/02/2014. The Forum for Cultural Workers “Year of Culture in Karelia: from Ideas to Results”
On the 28th and 29th of January 2014 in Petrozavodsk The Forum for Cultural Workers “Year of Culture in Karelia: from Ideas to Results” was held. The Forum has launched the Year of Culture in the Republic of Karelia. The opening session of the Forum took place in the National Theatre of the Republic of Karelia. In the theatre there were presentation platforms made by cultural institutions of Karelia.
The National Library of the Republic of Karelia, the Children and Youth Library of Karelia named after V. F. Morozov and the Library for the Blind of the Republic of Karelia presented the main projects and events scheduled for 2014:
- opening of a new building of the National Library of Karelia;
- BiblioNight - 2014;
- an event devoted to the 165th anniversary of publication of the Kalevala’s complete edition;
- opening of informational and cultural centers in libraries of Karelia;
- opening of virtual rooms of the Russian Museum in libraries of Karelia and Finland;
- project “Petrozavodsk open to the blind”;
- Summer reading project;
- a week of children’s book;
- a project Magic Christmas in the Nordic Countries.
There were two sessions in the library section of the Forum. At these events development trends of the libraries of Karelia at the present stage and in medium term were discussed. The library section was organized by the National Library of the Republic of Karelia in cooperation with the Children and Youth Library of Karelia named after V. F. Morozov and the Library for the Blind of the Republic of Karelia. The section was attended by 53 people, among them there were specialists of cultural institutions of Karelia, libraries of Petrozavodsk and members of the Culture Ministry of the Republic of Karelia.
The theme of the first session was “Present and Future Library: development concepts of the libraries of Karelia up to 2020”.
The second session was a discussion platform “What should the modern library be: opinion of the professional community and the society”. Heads and specialists of the libraries discussed models of the modern library, development trends for municipal libraries of Karelia, new roles and services of libraries and became acquainted with work of modern Finnish libraries.
On the 29th of January 2014 participants of the library section continued to work in the Children and Youth Library and took part in a creative laboratory The Modern Library as a Developing Environment: Positive Practices. The laboratory was attended by 40 heads and specialists of the libraries of Karelia and Petrozavodsk. The Children and Youth Library presented it’s creative, interactive and multimedia facilities and forms of working aimed at promotion and popularization of reading among children, teens and youth of Petrozavodsk and Karelia. Promotion of healthy lifestyle and tolerance, career guidance, patriotic education, family reading, creative contests and formation of information culture are priority areas of work with children and youth.
This evening in the National Museum of Karelia a governmental program Culture of Karelia was presented.
