26/08/2023. The Day of the Republic with the National Library of Karelia

The National Library of Karelia participated in the festive events dedicated to the Day of the Republic in Pitkyaranta, where it presented a rich cultural and educational program.
At the Books from the Old Briefcase site dedicated to the Year of the Teacher and Mentor, residents and guests of the city took part in interactive games and quizzes, learned what books and magazines Soviet children read, what they dreamed about, and what games they played.
Program visitors tested their knowledge of literature and history, biology and other subjects, tried to solve ancient math problems, got acquainted with books written in Braille, and tried to write words in this font on their own. The participants of the program were presented with the Through the Pages of Soviet Textbooks book exhibition.
For young participants, the Centre for Children's Reading prepared the Magic Mill Sampo program, in which hand puppets in Karelian folk costumes played the roles of heroes of the epic poem. The children not only got acquainted with the main features of the cultural heritage of Karelia, but also had fun, actively communicating with the heroes, solving Karelian riddles, putting together the broken Sampo mill from puzzles.
A meeting with our colleague Yana Zhemoytelite was held in the central library of the city. Yana Zhemoytelite is a prose writer, translator, playwright, poet, editor, and publisher. A new novel by Yana Zhemoytelyte The Sun Breathes Cold (16+) was included in the long list of the 1st All-Russian Literary Prize Hypertext.
The holiday was a great opportunity for all participants to get acquainted with the novelties of local history literature, which were presented by the book stall of the National Library.
Among the authors, there were famous names – Nadezhda Vailyeva, Elena Pietilyainen, Konstantin Gnetnev, Yana Zhemoitelite, Ilya Polunitsyn, and also beginning authors – Anna Danilova, Ekaterina Mitrofanova, Olga Bondareva.
Residents and guests of Karelia were keenly interested not only in book novelties on local history, but also in poetry and prose collections, art albums, literature for children and youth, which have already become popular among readers. Traditionally, photo albums, guidebooks, and postcards were in high demand.
