11/02/2023. Fairy Karelia for children from Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics
February 11, 2023:
The specialists of the National Library of Karelia held a creative program Fairy Karelia for children from Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics.
This meeting was a part of the Karelia invites project of the Karelian regional public organisation of social assistance “Bereginya”. The initiative of the project is aimed at social and cultural adaptation of families with children who arrived from the territories of the DPR, LPR and Ukraine to Karelia, and involves holding events that introduce the culture, history and traditions of our republic.
The Fairy Karelia creative program is based on the plot and characters of the Karelian and Finnish epic poem Kalevala – one of the most famous masterpieces of the past. Our guests visited the ancient land of Kalevala, where Sampo – a source of abundance and prosperity – is located. According to our ancestors, it was endowed with unprecedented power and brought unheard-of piece of luck to its owner.
Together we made a journey into the past; schoolchildren learned a lot about the history, culture and literature of Karelia, and Karelian costumes, music, epic heroes and, of course, books became guides along this path.
Books for children and adults from the electronic catalogue of the National Library will tell about Karelia and its traditions.
