16/01/2023. Petrozavodsk of the Soviet era. Cultural life of the city
Project Everyday Life of Petrozavodsk continues. On the 16th of January, the National Library of Karelia held a meeting dedicated to the cultural life of the city. This concept covers a very big part of life: theatres, museums, libraries, cinemas, radio and television, literary and musical life.
The attention of the participants was focused on several themes. These are three theatres of Petrozavodsk, Kantele ensemble, which is a Karelian brand, and local history museum. Basically, it was about how it all started in the 1920s and, especially, in the 1930s - the time of the creation of the professional art of Karelia and the familiarization of the general population with culture. In the latter case, club work and the development of amateur art activities played a huge role, this was also discussed. As sources, books from the collections of the National Library of Karelia, the newspapers Punainen Karjala (Eng. Red Karelia) and Leniniläinen Totuus (Eng. Lenin’s Truth) and some materials from the free access to the Internet were used.
