01/12/2022. Presentation of the book The Secret Folklore of Karelia

The National Library of Karelia held a presentation of the book The Secret Folklore of Karelia. The new book by Konstantin Loginov and Victor Ershov was published by the Verso publishing house.
The presentation was opened by Victor Ershov, Candidate of Sciences, local historian, Honoured Worker of Culture of Karelia and author of several monographs. He is a patron of the National Library, a regular participant in the Local Studies Days, a member of the Local History Club. Victor Ershov told how his local history activities began in the city of Medvezhyegorsk in the 1960s and how the idea of the book The Secret Folklore of Karelia appeared.
Unfortunately, Konstantin Loginov, Candidate of Historical Sciences and the second author of the book, did not live to see the day of the presentation. Irina Vinokurova, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Scientific Editor of the book, told about the life and work of K. Loginov and his work on the book. Aleksi Konkka shared his memories of field research with K. Loginov.
The book was published with the financial support of the Karelian Republican branch of the International Public Fund Russian Peace Foundation and the Karelian Regional Public Organization Zaonezhye. Valentina Sukotova, Chairman of the Board of Regional Public Organization Zaonezhye, congratulated the authors on the release of the book.
The book was printed by decision of the Academic Council of the Institute of Language, Literature and History of the Karelian Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The book opens with a scientific introduction; the book is based on the so-called religious and magical texts – spells, folk prayers, mythological stories. The book contains a rich reference apparatus, an extensive bibliography and illustrative material.
