High school students of Petrozavodsk became guests of the creative event Searching for the Mysterious Sampo. The Karelian and Finnish epic poem Kalevala has become a book guide to the past of our republic, and its heroes, together with specialists of the National Library, have become reliable assistants in studying the history, language and culture of Karelia.
The students made a trip to the history of our region, made a Karelian amulet doll with their own hands, learned about Vottovaara Mountain, magic of sieidis and stone labyrinths, and successfully coped with the tasks dedicated to Karelian customs and traditions. They got acquainted with unique Kalevala editions and books about home region, and Karelian costumes, music and heroes of the epic poem helped them.
In the meantime, the preschool children visited the creative event I Love You, Karelia, but do I Know You?, dedicated to the life of people on the territory of our region in the old days. How did our ancestors live in large traditional wooden houses? Our young readers have learned everything about ancient crafts, household items, beliefs and traditions.
The children could examine and play with the tactile aid Old hut, especially the toy stove attracted their attention. Participants in the program studied ancient Karelian clothes by using original textile dolls from a birch bark box. The children devoted a lot of time to working with illustrations from the new virtual resource of the National Library Keeping Traditions, and got acquainted with a large exhibition of publications for kids.
