30/10/2022. Fabulous Karelia for guests from St. Petersburg
October 30, 2022:
The National Library of Karelia invited schoolchildren from St. Petersburg to take part in the creative program Fabulous Karelia. The Karelian and Finnish epic poem Kalevala has become a guide to the past of our region; and its heroes, together with specialists of the National Library of Karelia, were reliable assistants in the study of history, language and culture.
The guests of the library visited the ancient country of Kalevala, where a source of abundance and prosperity, the Sampo mill, is located. According to our ancestors, it was endowed with unprecedented power and brought unheard piece of luck to its owner.
The young participants in the program got into the magic of sieidis and stone labyrinths, made a Karelian amulet doll with their own hands and successfully coped with the tasks dedicated to Karelian customs and traditions.
Schoolchildren from St. Petersburg heard about the heroes and the plot of the Kalevala for the first time, but this did not stop them from taking part in a team game at the end of the program and quickly finding the right answers to questions about the plot of the Kalevala. All guests of the program received gifts from the miracle Sampo mill for their inventiveness.
