20/10/2022. Bridges of Friendship at the National Library of Karelia

The Bridges of Friendship were held between readers of the National Library of Karelia and the Children’s Central Library of the Town of Stroitel. The event was a part of the project “CultExpress: My Unique Russia”, implemented in the framework of the Year of Cultural Heritage of Peoples of Russia. The project includes virtual trips of schoolchildren from the Belgorod Region through the Federal Districts of Russia, acquaintance with the numerous peoples of Russia, their culture, way of life, sights of the region. This time the schoolchildren were acquainted with the culture and traditions of Karelia.
Our republic was represented by Margarita Kempainen, an employee of the Karelian newspaper Oma Mua (Eng. Native Land), a member of the Karelian choir Oma Pajo (Eng. Native Song), a participant in historical reconstruction festivals. She showed ancient Karelian costumes using dolls as an example and organized a masterclass about Karelian shawl.
Svetlana Kryzh and Anastasiya Savelyeva, Employees of Museum of the Petrovski Palace, presented a masterclass Karelian Pie Requires Eight. Children answered to the questions of the comic quiz Dictionary of Karelian Little-Used Words and Karelian Cuisine.
Schoolchildren from the Finno-Ugric School read poems in Karelian and a rune of Ilmarinen from the Kalevala epic poem, told about revival of Karelian villages on the example the village of Yurgelitsa, about their project Kantele Made of a Pike. Six-graders from secondary school # 55 vividly presented Karelia, reporting on the most interesting places in the republic. Among the participants of the meeting, there were schoolchildren of Petrozavodsk School # 20. We hope that this experience of communication with schoolchildren from other regions of Russia will continue.
