24/06/2022. The National Library of Karelia presented the experience of working with Karelian fairy tales in Arkhangelsk
Vladimir Maksimkin, Head of the Center for Children's Reading of the National Library of Karelia, took part in the interregional library forum The North Reads! (Reading Region Section) with the report "Karelian Folk Tales as a Tool for the Formation of Reading Literacy of Schoolchildren”. The forum was a part of the White June Festival (Arkhangelsk),
The report touched upon the history of collecting and processing folklore texts in Karelia, the place of folk tales in the school curriculum and, of course, the experience of the National Library in this direction.
The forum participants were presented with an interesting experience of our library: various educational programs with Karelian atmosphere, tactile books based on fairy tales, classes with elements of theatrical performance and glove puppets, modern “intermediate” genres between epic and fairy tale, as well as competitions of children's drawings, festivals, presentations of new books and reprints of beloved collections of Karelian fairy tales.
At the Reading Region Section, the project of the Russian State Children's Library “Children's Reading Laboratory #KnowRead” was presented. This is, of course, a very interesting and promising project, which, among other things, contributes to the formation of reading literacy of schoolchildren. During the discussion, issues of interaction of librarians, teachers, child psychologists in the process of implementing the project were touched upon. The particular importance of including the regional heritage laboratory in the methodological developments was noted. For example, Karelian folk tales. The National Library is interested in the implementation of this project in Karelia and will become the regional curator of the laboratory.
