25/06/2022. From Peter the Great to the present day. The National Library of Karelia participated in the City Day celebration

As a part of the Petrozavodsk City Day program, the National Library of Karelia participated in a holiday called The “Illusions of the Old City”, which was traditionally held in the unique historical quarter of Petrozavodsk.
Once a year, the citizens and guests of Petrozavodsk go back in time, when authentic events of the city life of the late 19th - early 20th centuries are reconstructed and shown to them.
This year is the 350th anniversary of the birth of Peter the Great. His activities have helped to develop the medicine in Karelia, that’s why the theme of this year holiday was the history of the organization and development of the medical service, the work of the departments of the Country Council Hospital of the 18th - first half of the 20th centuries. In the Bookmobile The National Library presented the program “From Peter the Great to the present day” to the guests of the event. During the journey through time, the participants of this program got acquainted with the history of medicine, its significant events related to the reforms of Peter I, the first hospitals and the first doctors from “natural Russians”. The Bookmobile presented an exhibition of old books and a provincial newspaper, which helped enrich information about the reforms of Peter the Great and answer the questions of the chronograph game. ”The Incredible History of Medicine” exhibition presented the library’s best publications. In the photo exhibition ”No more noble work can be found” the doctors of Petrozavodsk and Karelia told themselves about the present day of their profession, small and big achievements, the miracle of birth, routine work, studies, etc.
All guests of the holiday enjoyed reading, playing and making discoveries at the informative, interactive and interesting events of the National Library of Karelia.
