The annual cultural festival Kalevala mosaic is ending. This year, on the 9th of April, the 220th anniversary of Elias Lönnrot (1802 - 1884), the author and compiler of the Kalevala epic poem, Finnish scientist, folklorist, linguist and doctor, is celebrated.
The Karelian and Finnish epic poem Kalevala, which preserves the cultural heritage of the people of Karelia, inspires people of many creative professions. Today, we draw the readers’ attention to a short video lecture “Kalevala in Cinema”, representing the view of the world's filmmakers on the images, heroes and the plot of the epic poem.
On the 8th of April, on the eve of the significant date, the National Library of Karelia presented at the Petrozavodsk Elias Lönnrot Finno-Ugril School video lectures “The Trips of Elias Lönnrot”. On this day, students made virtual trips on the routes of Elias Lennrot, based on his travel diaries. Schoolchildren learned about rune singers, folk holidays and various everyday aspects of life of rune singers’ villages. Numerous editions of the folklorist based on the folklore material collected during trips, were presented.
